Why Choose a Local Tour Operator in Uganda? Discover Uganda with Someone Who Calls It Home

When planning a trip to Uganda, especially to beautiful destinations like Kisoro and Lake Bunyonyi, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is who you travel with. In a country known for its warm hospitality, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes, your guide can make all the difference.

That’s why choosing a local tour operator in Uganda isn’t just a smart decision but the best way to experience the country from the heart.

And if you’re looking for authentic, affordable, and unforgettable tours, led by someone who was born and raised right here, meet Hillary Byamugisha, the founder of Hillary Uganda Trips.

I am Hillary—born in Kabale District, right near the shores of Lake Bunyonyi, and a proud son of southwestern Uganda. I grew up exploring the lush hills, hidden waterfalls, and community trails around Kisoro, Mgahinga, and the islands of Lake Bunyonyi.

My love for wildlife photography and community conservation led me to start Hillary Uganda Trips—a locally owned and community-rooted tour company that connects travellers with the real Uganda.

Every safari, hiking tour, gorilla trek, or cultural visit we offer is designed not just to show you Uganda—but to let you experience it through the eyes of someone who lives it every day.

Why Choose a Local Tour Operator Like Hillary Uganda Trips?

1. Local Knowledge & Hidden Gems

Unlike large international companies that follow generic routes, I know the secret spots only locals know—like:

Quiet corners of Lake Bunyonyi where you can paddle without crowds

Batwa community trails where real stories are shared

Unmarked paths in Kisoro leading to breathtaking crater lakes and waterfalls

2. Authentic Cultural Experiences

Our tours are rooted in the local communities. You won’t just see Uganda—you’ll meet it. From village walks to traditional cooking lessons, we support and collaborate with local families and guides.

3. Support Community-Based Tourism

A portion of all bookings goes to charity projects in my home area—supporting education, wildlife protection, and local health services.

When you travel with us, your trip directly supports the people and places you visit.

sustainable tourism through giving back

4. Personalized Itineraries – Designed Just for You

Whether you’re into photography, wildlife, hiking, or just want to relax by the lake, I’ll design a custom tour that fits your travel style and budget.

You can go at your own pace, explore deeper, and feel at home—because this is home.

5. Direct & Affordable Pricing

With a local operator, you skip the middlemen. That means better prices, more flexibility, and the assurance that your money supports real people, not overseas agencies.
